Latest Projects

Since I’ve last blogged I’ve been involved in a number of projects with various clients, some existing, some new. I’ve managed to secure a couple of good new projects which I will add to my site when they are complete. Personally I am finding one of the jobs very exciting as the clients have given me a lot of creative freedom, something which I absolutely love!

Some of the projects I can share with you include work I’ve done for the University of Chester’s tennis team. I was asked to create a new logo for the team and the result is something I am very happy with. You can view this project on my website.

I’ve also been working on some work for a Dublin based politician. The work included producing over 20 different flyers and leaflets leading up to the local elections, and since the candidate was successful in the elections I will be producing further designs for this client in the future.

I will be updating my blog more often in the coming weeks as I have a lot on at the minute which I feel is worth blogging about. Watch this space.

Elk & Wolf Chardonnay

Stumbled across this brilliant piece of packaging design for Elk & Wolf Chardonnay wine. The bottles, designed by London based branding agency SocialUK stand out as they are coated externally in aluminium. This design is a bold statement in a sector that is more used to seeing bottles designed in a more classical manner with subtle features.

Despite the harsh, almost industrial appearance of the bottle it manages to keep a high level of sophistication. The silhouettes for example are a nice touch and help to break up what might otherwise be an overpowering element.

Reading through other people’s opinions of this design it is certainly not one that appeals to the masses but from a personal point of view this is right up my street. A fresh, bold design that stands out from the crowd, Beautiful.

UK plug gets a makeover

•June 24, 2009 • 3 Comments

I found this brilliant little invention thanks to Twitter. What is it? Well, it’s a prototype design for a new UK format plug. The plug, designed by an American woman incorporates a few nice little functions in to the design – including a ready made multi-adaptor.

Personally I’ve never looked at the UK plug and thought “Urgh, that could use a redesign”. It’s sturdy, never falls out of the wall (unlike many flimsy US/Euro plugs I’ve used), but when you see such things as this being made it begs the question, why not redesign it? Sure, it would be a pain for electrical companies to switch their products to this new design but it’s not a huge barrier to overcome. After all, if a better design for the plug exists then why not use it?

The New Mini Cabrio – Always Open

•June 16, 2009 • 3 Comments

The following are a series of print teasers designed to launch the New Mini Cabrio. The campaign plays on the tagline ‘Always Open’ with some humorous images. The campaign pokes fun at the idea of the cabriolet driver and driving with the roof open.

A very nice campaign which certainly succeeds in creating a personality for the new Mini.

Tango Rebrand

•June 10, 2009 • 2 Comments

New Tango Cans

Popular soft drink Tango has had a makeover thanks to creative firm Blue Marlin Brand Design. The new cans focus on Tango’s explosive taste and use taglines such as “Caution: Sharp Edge” on the face to compliment this message.

In a press release, Blue Marlin Brand Design said;

“Tango’s personality needed to be brought to life again so we have really mashed up the packaging to bring out its innate Tangoness and put its personality back where it belongs: in your face.”

Personally I think this is a welcome change to the Tango brand. It’s nicely designed and the bright, vibrant colours help give the cans an edgy feel. I always used to associate Tango as something different to the norm, especially when the ‘You’ve been Tangoed’ campaign was around. However since then I’ve just seen it as just yet another run of the mill soft drink. Maybe this rebrand will help it stand out from the crowd once again.

Worst Advert Ever?

•June 2, 2009 • 2 Comments

I’ve just seen this during an ad break and in short, it made me cringe beyond belief! Awful song, awful animation, just downright….well….awful!

So is this the worst advert you’ve ever seen? If not, then I’d love to hear your nominations for the worst TV advert ever. Please let me know by commenting below.

Benadryl ‘War’ Advert

•May 31, 2009 • Leave a Comment

It’s an advert that has been out a while now but every time I see it I think wow. I just love the whole idea behind it and how they’ve managed to encorporate so many elements of nature in to the idea. The advert was created by the media agency JWT London. For those who have seen it before I’m sure you won’t mind seeing it again, for those who haven’t…enjoy.
